The business of cosmetic surgery, whether it is a tummy tuck, facelift or a boob job is the most unlikely industry to see disruptions; rather, it is witnessing a surge year after year.
The reason is clear.
Cosmetic rejuvenation is now not limited to just celebrities and the wealthy.
It is now popular among the general public, thanks to promotionals on various media platforms.
People want to look younger and better by use of age-defying products and, if essential, going under the knife.
Among makeovers, abdominoplasty or tummy tuck is highly sought after.
The procedure shapes up your abdomen by getting rid of excess skin and fat while concurrently tightening the muscles.
“It is not important how much fat you have”, says a specialist of abdominoplasty in Mount Airy MD. “What really matters for us surgeons is the skin and the muscle”.
It is no wonder abdominoplasty is gaining ground.
Despite the tendency for people to opt for non-invasive solutions like fillers, non-surgical nose jobs, and Botox, people do not seem to be reluctant to undergo invasive surgery.
With more than 120,000 procedures performed in 2019, abdominoplasty figures among the top cosmetic procedures performed in the United States.
“The procedure trims the waistline allowing you get a smoother and better looking abdominal profile”, says a surgeon who frequently performs tummy tuck in Maryland.
“My patients tell me they feel more confident about wearing swimwear after the procedure and they do not have to search for outfits that camouflage their bellies”.
The feel good factor is of course one thing, but tummy tuck does have its share of drawbacks.
It is a major work for the surgeon and for the patient the healing process is long – can take over 3 months to a year for full recovery.
It is pricey and insurance may not cover it.
You may need fine-tuning, which means more visits to the surgeon.
Despite the cons, people are still making a beeline for tummy tucks.
“Abdominoplasty surgeons near me do a good job”, says a college professor in MD. “The feedback was quite encouraging”.
You can go ahead if you are in good health and have a stable weight.
Doctors do not demand exacting physical standards. You are okay if you are within 10-15 pounds of your ideal weight.
A key thing that doctors want from you is to be prepared for at least 2 weeks’ downtime.
Moreover, you must be ready to wait for six weeks for complete recovery for any kind of strenuous activity.
This requirement seems to suit patients especially during the Covid-19 pandemic times.
In isolation, they can spare time to recover.
It is no wonder there is some sort of a surge in makeover procedures.
While many medical fields are reeling from depressed business conditions due to lockdowns, cosmetic surgical procedures are seeing an upsurge perhaps because people are finding the pandemic the right time for a physical uplift.
